Minneapolis City Council Discusses New Ordinance Aimed At Combatting Homeless Encampments
The Summary: Minneapolis city council members have introduced new ordinances to combat the persistent cycle of homeless encampments. The city aims to provide consistent housing solutions through "Safe Outdoor Spaces" and "Safe Parking Spaces" by taking inspiration from other cities like Denver and Duluth.
Proposed Solutions: The proposed Safe Outdoor Spaces could include tiny homes, structured pods, or tents, while Safe Parking Spaces would allow people to park overnight and access services. These spaces would be located on city-owned or non-profit land.
Looking to Other Cities for Guidance: Cities like Denver, which already operate Safe Outdoor Spaces, are viewed as models. A report from the Minneapolis City Auditor’s office highlights that Denver's program has successfully transitioned some individuals into permanent housing.
Next Steps: A committee has approved asking the city attorney to begin drafting ordinances for the proposed spaces, with a full City Council vote scheduled in two weeks.

The Final Word: Restaurant Recommendation 🍜
I went out to eat on Friday night to My Huong Kitchen on Eat Street. When I’m in the mood for a big bowl of pho, I usually head to Quang but I wanted to try something new and I ended up having such a great experience — the pho was delicious, the spring rolls were fresh, and the owner was incredibly nice.
Disclaimer: this is not a sponsored post, I just had such a genuinely good experience that I had to tell you all about it.
