Sound Unseen Film + Music Festival: 25th Anniversary 🎬

 

Festival Overview: Sound Unseen is celebrating its 25th year as a unique "films-on-music" festival in Minneapolis, featuring documentaries, short films, music videos, and live performances. The festival runs from November 13-17 at multiple venues including the Parkway Theater and Cloudland.

FYI: The Sound Unseen Festival is planning an indefinite hiatus after this year’s event so now is the time to attend!

Highlights:

DEVO: This documentary chronicles Devo’s 50-year journey from a cult band born out of the Kent State massacre to near-rock stardom, blending unique social commentary with their iconic hit "Whip It.". More info.

Linda Perry: An intimate documentary that explores the life, creative process, and personal struggles of iconic artist Linda Perry, followed by an acoustic performance and Q&A with Perry and director Don Hardy. More info

1-800-On-Her-Own: This doc follows Ani DiFranco’s journey from a rebellious folk singer defying the music industry with her label Righteous Babe Records to a renowned activist and relatable icon, blending raw honesty and humor with a lifelong dedication to art and activism. More info.

Born To Be Wild: chronicles the rise of the iconic rock band Steppenwolf, led by John Kay, whose hard-hitting sound and anthem "Born to Be Wild" defined a generation and introduced "heavy metal" to music. More info.

Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat: documentary by Johan Grimonprez that delves into the 1961 political turbulence linking jazz, espionage, and colonialism, capturing the assassination of Patrice Lumumba and the U.S. State Department's use of jazz diplomacy amid Cold War tensions. More info
